How do adults back Jewish young people to lead us all toward a livable future? How can they help young people face an issue that’s scary at any age, without feeling lost or alone? Why does it matter that adults keep fun, laughter and not giving up on themselves central as they do this? How do creativity, music and climate crisis education go hand in hand?
Two summers ago at Eden Village Camp, we led a chug (elective activity) where young people wrote 50-plus original songs about the climate crisis, played games, wrote and produced an all-camp music video called “11 Years (We Have to Change the Earth)” and shared their feelings and stories. In this workshop, we invite you to experience a Zoom-ed out version of our chug, co-led by two staff and three campers, ages 10-14. We will reflect on what we learned and what we’re still asking, have fun and try our hand at writing climate songs together.
