These are trying times. And ever the more so for our educators, clergy and communal professionals who spend their days and nights taking care of their communities.
We focus so much on caring for others that we often forget or don’t make the time to take care of ourselves. Yet we also know that when we do not practice self-care, we are not as effective for our communities. As we always hear when we travel, we need to put our masks on first. We are creating a group to help us do just that.
Join us for our new “Putting Our Mask on First” group for educators, clergy and communal professionals. This virtual group will be facilitated by Dr. Betsy Stone and Micol Zimmerman Burkeman, MAJE, and will meet weekly for a month. The same group will meet for all four sessions. This will be a place for us to share, support each other and learn ways to practice self-care and manage our own fears and challenges so we can be at our best for our communities.
Group size will be limited to keep it smaller and more intimate. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We will have a waiting list and if we exceed the cap by enough, we will create a second group.

Dr. Betsy Stone received her doctorate in psychology from Yale University. She is a retired psychologist who serves as an adjunct lecturer at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Her classes include Human Development for Educators, Adolescent Development and Teens In and Out of Crisis. She teaches and consults with Jewish professionals across the country.
Micol Zimmerman Burkeman, MAJE, is the recruitment and leadership development associate at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. She has worked to elevate and reimagine Jewish education and teen engagement for the last 15 years. As a consultant, coach, designer and facilitator of professional development, she works with educators, clergy and Jewish communal professionals to help them increase their impact and maximize their potential.
